Escape from Alcatraz

Yes made it off the infamous Rock - along with hundreds of other tourists. I knew that visiting Alcatraz is the thing to do in San Francisco, but I didn't realise that there'd be quite so many people over there, which made it difficult to get a good feel for the place. Most people seemed to follow the set tourist route though, so off that route the island was surprisingly quiet and I could begin to imagine what it must have felt like to be imprisoned under such harsh conditions yet still able to see the city.

Off to Osaka tomorrow (via Tokyo). I'm very excited about seeing everyone again, but at the same time am a little sad about leaving San Francisco and having to say goodbye to my friends. I feel very at home here. Still, time to move on.
